THE CONVENER

Comrade (Barr.)Benedict Ezeagu, trained as both Barrister and Solicitor, is a Legal Practitioner and the Principal Associate of B.C.O. Ezeagu & Associates (Liberation Chambers); a seasoned, passionate and altruistic Human Rights Activist, Humanitarian, Social Critic and Pan-Africanist, Benedict has been founder, leader and member of many local and international organizations human rights organizations and professional bodies. Thus he is a member, Civil Liberties Organization (CLO); member, United Action for Democracy (UAD);Member, Eastern Mandate Union (EMU);former member, Joint Action Committee of Nigeria (JACON);former member, National Democratic Coalition (NADECO); former member, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE); Member, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC); Member, Catholic Lawyers Association (CLA); member Nigeria Bar Association (NBA);Member, International Law Association (ILA).
He was also the Chairman, Information and Intelligent Bureau Committee of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE),Igbo-Etiti Local Government Council(1996-1998);Publicity Secretary, Civil Liberties Organization, Enugu State(1998-1999);Coordinator, United Action for Democracy (UAD), Enugu State (1998-2000);Chairman, Democratic Alternative (DA), Enugu State (1998-2003);Senator, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS,2001-2002); National President, Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN,2004-2005);
He is also the founding Executive Director, Movement for African Independence and Development (MAID, 1998-date); founding National President, Access to Life (2002-date), the convener and National Coordinator (2010-date) of the exclusively Lawyers’ human rights organization called Lawyers of Conscience as well as the founding National Coordinator (SNG, 2010-date) of Save Nigeria Group (SNG) which is currently the foremost registered human rights and pro-democracy organization in Nigeria.
As a thinker, prolific writer, poet and author Ezeagu has written and publisher of over Seven (7) Books which include:- the Current And Social Affairs (CASA),The Unexpected Traitors: The Bane of Nigeria’s Existence; My Clarion Calls for Revolution; The Portrait of An lgala ldol: A Biography of Dr. Steven M. Achema, Chief M.K.O Abiola and June 12: The Immortal Phenomena; Equity National Law Journal; Celebration of Womanhood: The Rise of Amazons in Nigeria, Spring of Wisdom: a collection of didactic poems.
Barrister Benedict C. O. Ezeagu has been arrested, incarcerated and persecuted several times by various despotic authorities in Nigeria, including the past Military juntas in Nigeria, because of his unrepentant pacific struggles against corrupt, oppression, injustice and undemocratic Governments. Widely travelled, he has participated, spoken and presented papers in many national and international conferences, seminars and workshops sponsored by prominent organizations such as LAWSAN,NANS,KIND,USAID, YES, USIS, COPPED, CLO, DA, CD, FEM Internationale, CDHR, DA, Access to Justice, Friedrich Ebert foundation, NBA, etc.
